Counselling for adults in person in York and online UK wide.
Hello and welcome to Still Waters Therapy. I’m Janet and I’m a humanistic counsellor. Life can be difficult at times and we all need someone who can help support us. People come to counselling for a variety of reasons, including anxiety, depression, low slef esteem and identity issues.
Right now you might be feeling lost, and unsure of how to move forwards with your life. Perhaps you feel unheard and unsupported.
I can offer you a safe, confidential space, within which to explore your difficulties. I will work collabaritively with you, to help you find a way forwards, without telling you what to do.

I have a diploma in counselling and am a registered member of The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). In addition to this, I have a degree in psychology.
I have previously worked as a director for Kindlewoods CIC, a social enterprise focused on nature and mental health. I have also worked as a support worker for adults with both learning and physical disabilities.
In my spare time I enjoy being out in nature, wild swimming and creative activities.
I have a particular interest in working with autistic clients and those with ADHD, as well as parent/carers. I have had additional training in order to best support neurodivergent. In addition to this, I am Mum to two autistic young adults, one of whom also has ADHD. This gives me lived experience of the challenges faced when living in a neurotypical world, and those arising from navigating complex systems in order to try and get support.
The challenges that I have faced in getting the correct help for my children often left me feeling unheard, unsupported and unfairly judged. Ultimately this led me to train to become a counsellor. I care deeply about giving people the space to be seen, heard and supported in a non judgemental way. In my experience, this can bring about great changes in time.
I offer in person sessions in Acomb Methodist Church, York. One of the rooms that I use there is wheelchair accessible. Free parking is available in Acomb.
I also offer online sessions, which some clients find more convenient and accessible. I have had additional training in online working to ensure I work to the highest possible standards. Online counselling has been shown to be as in person counselling.
Sessions cost £50 for 50 minutes, payable by bank transfer.
I offer a free, no obligation 15 minute consultation either on the phone or via Microsoft Teams. This enables us to get to know a bit about each other and work out if we are the right fit.
I work between the hours of 9 o’clock and 4 o’clock on a Tuesday. On Wedensdays and Thursdays I work from 11 o’clock until 3 o’clock.
